Significant City History

Salinas began around 1840 as the Halfway House, a
stagecoach stop between Monterey and San Juan Bautista.

Salinas was the birthplace of writer and Nobel Prize laureate
John Steinbeck.

Located in one of California's richest farming regions, the area
 produces a variety of fruits and vegetables, including lettuce,
strawberries, melons, broccoli, carrots, cabbages, & spinach.
