This morning we had an event in Wickenburg at the town hall. When we got there we had a meet and greet with the Vice Mayor Jim Girad and Mayor Ron Badowshi. We also met with Irene Morgan the cities administrative assistant who helped coordinate the event along with the mayor. The Vice Mayor Jim Girad told us this really interesting story about his life and how anyone is capable of doing anything that they want to. He gave us a lot of insight and encouragement. He was such an inspiring man. Then after the vice mayor spoke the mayor came in and asked us some questions about the project. We all pitched in on the answers and he then told us to always be honest with people even though the truth might hurt and to remember that we are making a difference in this society and we should keep up the good work. One interesting thing that I found out about that little town is that they are very environmentally friendly because most live on land and they believe that “If you take care of the earth, then the earth will take care of you.” That is something that they abide by everyday, the Mayor said the cowboys and local people don’t usually litter and they do a lot of recycling. I honestly had a really good time at this event; they were very truthful and honest people. After we left Wickenburg we got in the car and headed toward Bullhead City. But before we left I actually forgot about the event because I had so much stuff on my mind. Then everyone got pretty upset at me because I forgot and didn’t communicate that with everyone. So we had to split up into two groups, one group went ahead to Bullhead and the other group stayed behind and rode their bikes towards Henderson. When we got to Bullhead city we were greeted by such nice people and they were really welcoming. When we first got there of course we met with the Mayor Jack Hakim and the councilmen Larry Snagoga. After we had our little meet and greet the mayor introduced the Bullhead City Junior High school band and they played La Bamba, they actually played very good despite the fact that the band was fairly small. After they performed the mayor told us about how they were helping to improve the environment, such as starting this recycling and cleaning up litter organization called Bullhead City Clean, where they go out in the community to promote recycling and not littering. One really huge thing they do to utilize their sunny and hot weather is to use solar panels. They use them to light up streetlights and billboards signs, which saves a tremendous amount of energy and electricity. While leaving Bullhead city I actually saw at least a dozen or more solar panels lighting up those billboard signs, which is a really cool way to utilize there sun. When we left Bullhead City we headed towards Henderson where the next event was supposed to be taking place, but because I didn't get in touch with the contact person we didn’t have an event. We had a big meeting when everyone got to Henderson and Thomsen was pretty upset that we don’t seem to talk with each other and get our jobs done. He did a very good job explaining how important it is to contact people before we get there and to communicate between us all just exactly what is going on. I didn’t take it personal I just took it as an encouraging thought. The chaperones talked to us about that today after they got back from their ride, and I agree with everything they mentioned. The riders rode from Wickenburg, AZ to Henderson, Nevada within a 6 hour time period and they rode in small groups for two hours and then a break in between then at it again. Today was a very long day and also the day to remember that “communication is the key to a good relationship.” |
